2019 Highlights The Europe-INBO International Conference 17-20 June - Lahti (Finland) 150 participants from 30 countries gathered for a bet- ter implementation of the European Water Directives: revision of the Water Framework Directive, recovery of water quality, sea-basin interface, sustainable agri- culture, etc. Proposals were presented to the Euro- pean Commission at the end of the conference. General Assembly of the African Network of Basin Organizations (ANBO) INBO actively participated in the Ge- neral Assembly of the African Network of Basin Organizations (ANBO), 2-5 July in Tunis. • Themes: groundwater, climate change and funding. • Challenge: defining a roadmap for an action plan 2020-2024. The World General Assembly - Marrakech International Summit on Water Security 30 Sept. - 3 Oct. - Marrakech (Morocco) 400 participants from 62 countries, including 10 Minis- ters, shared their experiences in basin management. The addressed issues were: international and trans- boundary cooperation, rural development, adaptation to climate change and funding. The INBO 2019-2021 action plan, comprising 7 priori- ties, was adopted during a statutory session: • Water information systems. • Adaptation to climate change. • Strengthening of governance. • Intersectoral coordination and environmental conservation. • Increasing the city-basin dialogue. • Participatory basin management. • Development of partnerships. The International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) Established in 1994, INBO has 192 member or- ganizations, based in 88 countries and organized into 7 regional networks. OiEau has provided its Permanent Technical Secretariat (technical and institutional support, training, data and information systems) since the beginning. INBO main task is to promote Integrated Mana- gement of Water Resources (IWRM) and aquatic ecosystems as well as the strengthening of basin organizations to meet the challenges of biodiver- sity conservation, sustainable development and adaptation to climate change. To fulfill this task, INBO is developing exchanges of experience and twinning projects, organizing events and implementing partnerships (e.g. OECD on water governance; UNECE on transboundary cooperation and adaptation to climate change). © Riad TABIBEN - RIOB The President of ANBO, Mrs. Enaw, was reappointed. ©ANBO 32
